Minister Gormley to speak at climate change lecture

John Gormley, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, will be among the speaks at a seminar entitled 'Climate Change and Copenhagen - what's on the Cards' to be held on Thrusday 3 December in the Hibernian Club, St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2.

Date for Ireland's largest environment conference announced

'Environment Ireland' is Ireland’s largest conference on environmental policy and management and is attended each year by over 300 delegates representing all the major sectors with an interest in Ireland’s environment, including a significant number from Britain and further afield.

The main theme of 2010's conference is Towards a green economy: Prioritising the environment in difficult economic times.

The two-day conference, which also features a lively exhibition area, will be addressed by over 40 expert speakers, both local and international, on issues including sustainable development; climate change; biodiversity; waste management; water resources and environmental policy. It will be held on 3 July at Croke Park, Dublin. Further details can be obtained from the Environmental Protection Agency.

 
Innovation Dublin Festival

A number of events, such as lectures, exhibitions, tour and concerts will be held to coincide with the Innovation Dublin Festival. Many are based on the themes of public realm, environment, enterprise, culture and people. All events will take place over the week 14-20 October 2009.

One unusual, but interesting tour will include a visit to Ringsend Waste Water Treatment Plant. For further details log on to www.innovationdublin.ie.

 
European Week of Regions - October 2009

European Week of Regions and Cities - October 2009

Several events are being held in Ireland to celebrate the 'Regions and Cities' week from 20-23 October. Venues are as follows:

1. Galway - 'Practical Issues in tackling Environmental Challenges' (22 October). For more details go to www.nasc.ie

2. Dublin - 'A Collective Vision for the Irish Sea Region' (23 October). For more details go to www.dra.ie

The Dublin events are being hosted by Dublin City Council, whereas Galway City Council is hosting their city's council.

 
EPA lectures for October and November

The Environmental Protection Agency has published details of two forthcoming lectures relating to climate change, both of which will be held in the Mansion House, Dawson Street, Dublin 2. Details as follows:

Lecture 9:  For Peat’s Sake – Bogs and Climate Change - Tuesday 27 October 2009

Speaker: Professor Hans Joosten, Head of the Mire and Palaeo Ecology Institute in University of Griefwald, Germany.

A member of the Belarusian delegation to the UNFCCC where he has advised on inclusion of peatlands in future actions to address climate change.

Lecture 10:  Back to the Future – The Role of Climate Science - Tuesday 24 November 2009

Speaker: Professor Jean-Pascal van Ypersele, Head of Climatology and Environmental Sciences, University Catholique de Louvain.
